Januarys are a helpful time to remind ourselves of big priorities and concepts. This Sunday we have the opportunity to grab ahold of both. This sermon has been running laps in my mind for a couple of years now. I think this is a good time for us as a church to consider it together.
We will look at several passages (Gn. 1-3; Jn. 14-16; Ga. 4.1-7; Mt. 28.18-21) but the point is the same: God is a missionary God who actively engages in the mission of making worshippers. He does this for his glory and our good. This truth of God's identity and purpose helps clarify and calibrate what are to be about. In other words, God's mission shapes our own.
Here is the outline: 3 Components of God's Mission
1- Sending of the Son of God to Accomplish Redemption
2- Sending of the Spirit of God to Apply Redemption
3- Sending of the People of God to Announce Redemption
